Programs/Services
The Free Will Baptist Children's Home, Inc. is a community centered, non-profit agency that provides a caring residential program for abused, neglected, and abandoned children, licensed for ages 12-18 years old, accepting them into the Children's Home community, and striving to provide the best professional assistance available. Here are some of the programs/services we offer.
Independent life skills Program: Cottage life provides a warm, nurturing environment with full-time children's services workers who teach our children beginning independent living skills, such as organizational, money and time management skills , as well as social skills and self advocacy skills . It provides a highly-disciplined environment and positive feedback that encourages adolescents to change negative behavior and attitudes, to be more considerate, and respectful of norms.
REAL WORLD PREPARATION : Established for youth sixteen (16) years of age and older who are in need of advanced independent living skills. Training includes developing the skills necessary to live productively and independently. This includes all aspects of seeking and maintaining employment, with emphasis being placed on completing their high school education or getting their GED . Residents in this program are encouraged to make the decisions regarding his or her future in a monitored, but less dependent environment. Young adults in this program who complete high school may choose to continue their education in college, the Job Corps, military, or enter the work force.
FAMILY CLARIFICATION: This service helps the family decide about itself as a family. The short-term goal is to choose and implement a permanent plan from among the available options, which may include reunification of the family, adoption, independent living, or long-term foster care. The focus for the child is on participation in the family decision making process and on coming to terms with the decision once it is made. This is done in collaboration with the legal custodian.
TUTORIAL PROGRAM: On campus tutoring is available for all children in care. Certified teachers give individual attention to children who need extra help with schoolwork.
THERAPY: Our Therapy Program provides counseling by a licensed therapist to both the child and family for guidance and direction to reach set goals. Group therapy is available to help residents with problems such as anger management and self-esteem. Therapy helps identify and resolve emotional problems by working with both the child and family to resolve the issues and prepare the family for providing appropriate care and nurturing to help meet the child’s specific needs.
HIGHER EDUCATION: Former residents who graduate high school while in care and attend college can receive financial aid through this program such as, scholarships, loans, special needs, monthly allowances.
ADOPTION: The FWBCH does not serve as an adoption agency. We are a home for children that have been displaced from their birth families for various reasons, such as abuse, neglect, abandonment, and sometimes death. Persons interested in adoption are referred to the Department of Social Services.
FAMILY/THERAPEUTIC FOSTER CARE: We recruit and train eligible foster families to care for abused and neglected children. These families are licensed to care for foster children temporarily, while their parents work with social work professionals to resolve their family issues.
RECREATION: The facilities such as recreation center, gym, and pool are located on campus. Cottages are given monthly allowances to allow participation in community, cultural, and social events.
RELIGIOUS: Religious training has been a tradition at the Home from the beginning, and still today, with daily devotions, and weekly chapel. Every child is required to participate in these important activities.
